My Paintings
My paintings begin with an idea, a place, a person, I then start my research finding memorabilia, fabrics, old photographs, building a story around and within the painting. Building layers upon layers, scraping back creating texture and depth. I build in the collage making the paining personal to the person or place, this excites me as I am painting a portrait without a face, but the person is there within the painting. Accidents happen but this is emotive as not all accidents are negative but positive giving freedom and flow with paint and mixed media. I am often asked ‘’ do you paint with a brush or palette knife’’ I paint with all different tools some conventional some not, kitchen spatulas, tile grouting tools even plastering trowels anything that will give me the depth and texture I am looking for.
